Jonker Street in Malacca

Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat) is a popular weekend market in Malacca.

Activities

- Eat street food, the popiah there is exceptionally delicious.  Chicken rice balls in the afternoon (closed in the evening) opposite the bank (junction of Jalan Hang Jebat and Lorong Hang Jebat). Avoid the pineapple tarts, most of them are are too dry – take a picture with their record-setting one though.

- Shop. Lots of interesting little knick-knacks and of course the requisite tourist shops. For some reason, MAC make-up was exceptionally popular.

Tips

- Not all antiques are antiques. Use common sense.

- Don’t eat the “china pear” it literally takes your breath away and makes breathing hard for awhile. If you have any idea why please leave it in the comments!

Wondering how to get to Malacca? While it is relatively easy to drive to Malacca, my favourite way to get from Singapore to Malacca is by bus. If you only have a weekend, try not to spend your precious time looking for a parking space.
